We are all experiencing a lot of feelings right now: confusion, rage, sadness, indignation, destabilization. This unconstitutional decision to overturn Roe v. Wade by what is supposed to be the Constitution’s greatest protector has devastated all of us.

This decision will not end with eliminating the constitutional right to get an abortion: it will continue with other decisions that have merely legalized what should be unquestioned human rights: the right to marry someone you love regardless of their sex or gender (Obergefell v. Hodges); the right to sexually express yourself with another fully consenting adult in the privacy of your own home (Lawrence v. Texas); the right to access to contraception (Griswold v. Connecticut); even the right to marry people who are of a different race (Loving v. Virginia). The first three cases mentioned were specifically cited by disgraced Justice Clarence Thomas as ones that the Supreme Court should reconsider.

This decision does not just impact women and people with uteruses: it impacts us all. The overturning of Roe has caused a complete breakdown of trust in the Supreme Court, as well as a maelstrom of chaos as everyone tries to understand the interconnectedness of abortion rights and other risks to the health and happiness of the American people.

We at March On Foundation wish to state unequivocally in unambiguous language that we are a pro-choice institution. Safe and easy access to a professionally-performed abortion is a human right to which all uterus-bearing people are entitled, regardless of the reason. No one has the right to tell another person what they can and cannot do with their bodies, least of all the government. The overturning of Roe v. Wade is not an attempt to preserve human life: it is one of the biggest elements of a power grab being conducted by those who are already the most privileged, wealthy, and powerful. It has been orchestrated since Roe was first decided in 1973, and is designed specifically to marginalize, brutalize, and control women, people of color, the poor, and the LGBTQIA+ community. And we will do everything in our power to advocate that those rights be returned.

Whatever we can legally do to help you get this essential healthcare if you need it, we have your back. 

We are all hurting. This decision has impacted each member of our team in multiple ways; and as more decisions are released, like the one limiting the EPA’s ability to limit planet-warming emissions, it feels as though the hits just keep coming. 

It will take time for people to heal from this shock (we can be unsurprised and still be shocked). We ask that all of you with women, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ people in your communities (which should be all of us) extend them some grace during this time. We cannot overemphasize how much pain this could potentially cause a person. Please: let us rage, let us grieve, let us scream so that we may continue the fight tomorrow.
